Two Weeks Notice

I did it. I gave my two weeks notice on Friday. I was so nervous. My manager was so nice about it, but honestly what could she do, fire me? So I have two shifts left and then I just get to stay home and work on becoming a better wife and mom. How great is that? I think Mazee's going to get really sick of me. Anyway, Jake is loving his new job and all the perks that come with it. Whenever we go anywhere now he wants to take his new truck, but it's so dirty. What can I expect though, he works with asphalt. Needless to say, we're feeling very blessed.

Sincere Apologies

I have been feeling guilty the last couple weeks because I have not been the loyal, freak-out American Idol fan that I was in the past. I've definitely been watching, and we've still been having our weekly Tuesday night gatherings at Grandma Gunnell's house with our dinner assignments and all. But for some reason I'm just not as into it this season. Is it just me? I mean, I used to be calling and voting on both mine and Jake's cell phones for hours. I also went to their concert last summer with Jake's mom, sister, and aunt, which was way fun! I was 7 months pregnant and totally jammed out in loyalty to AI. What has happened to me? I'm just not feelin' it.

The guilt is starting to build inside me. I guess I felt the need to confess my sins today. I'm sorry AI Season 7, I'll do better.

Big Girl Blythe

Is 5 years old today! Happy Birthday Blythe! We love you!

A-Z

Shan tagged me, so here we go....... hopefully I get the alphabet in the right order.

A. Attached or Single: Attached to Jake & Mazee

B. Best Friend: Jake and then my mom

C. Cake or Pie: If the treat is going to be a pastry, I'd rather have a doughnut. I'm a sucker for doughnuts. Isn't that sick?

D. Day of Choice: Saturday. No obligations. No school, no work, just whatever we want to do.

E. Essential item: Hair wax to smooth down all my little baby hairs that are growing in after losing half my head of hair after having Mazee

F. Favorite Color: Probably black. It's just so classy to me and always looks good. Jake always asks me if I'm going "Goth"

G. Gummy bears or worms: Worms. The bears don't give me the "party in my mouth" kind of feeling like the worms do

H. Hometown: Mapleton, Utah

I. Indulgence(s): Diet Dr. Pepper, Redbox

J. January or July: July because we're going to Lake Powell!!

K. Kids: just my sweet Miss Mazee

L. Life is incomplete without: Of course Jake & Mazee

M. Marriage Date: December 10th, 2005

N. Number of siblings: 4

O. Oranges or apples: Well, I'm a huge fan of both, but lately I've been on an orange kick. There's nothing like a nice cold refreshing orange

P. Phobias or Fears: My biggest fear is losing Jake, Mazee, or my Mom and Dad. I would be lost without any one of them. I hope my mom and dad don't die until I do, how do you survive without parents?

Q. Quotes: I don't really have any, but Jake is always quoting Seinfield

R. Reason to smile: because Jake is loving his new job, he graduates in 3 weeks, which means I can quit work any time I want after that!!!

S. Season of choice: I love Spring because the flowers are coming out and it means warmth is coming, but I love Fall too because I just love the feeling of Fall

T. Tag: Tiff, Lacey, Carly, Aunt B, & anyone else

U. Unknown fact about me: I love bargain shopping and especially on eBay. My most recent purchase was the whole set of 25 Baby Einstein DVDs which I got for $35. That's pretty good when you consider one DVD is usually about $12.

V. Very favorite store: It depends what I'm shopping for, but I definitely love Sam's Club. I could spend hours and hours in that store

W. Worst habit: I'm a hoarder. I can't let go of things i.e. clothes, anything with sentimental value even things I drew/made when I was little, coupons- I'm always thinking "I might go shop there so then I could use this 25% off," when I've never even been to that store, and things my mom is giving away- even if I don't need it I think "Maybe I might need/use it someday."

X. X-ray or Ultrasound: Since I work around these, I'd have to say X-ray. They are so much faster and less complicated. The type of ultrasounds we do in the NICU are on the babies heads so it's not as exciting as if it were a pregnant momma's belly

Y. Your favorite food: Oh my lands! Where do I begin? If we're eating out we absolutely LOVE Bajio's, Fazoli's, and Red Lobster. At home I love chicken and rice as well as haystacks, but let's be honest, I don't cook a lot, poor Jake

Z. Zodiac sign: Scorpio. I googled Scorpio and it said this "Scorpio is considered highly passionate, imaginative, determined, persevering, inflexible and self-confident." Doesn't sound like me at all. Weird.

The Pageant

Kathryn competed in the Miss pageant this last weekend, and let's cut right to the chase, she didn't place. Now, I know I'm her sister, so naturally I'm a little biased, but c'mon, those judges had to have been deaf and dumb. Between Kathryn and our cousin Samantha, who also competed, they stole the whole show and it ended up neither placed. If you were there you would agree that the results were seriously wrong. They both had flawless piano performances and looked great in their swimsuits.

Sadly, I didn't get any of it recorded because I was so into the whole thing and so nervous I couldn't hold the camera still. So I only pulled my camera out at the end. Kathryn was absolutely awesome though and I was so, so proud of her. She had such a good attitude, even in the months preceding when everybody had a different opinion on how she should do her hair, what she should wear, and even how she should stick her swimsuit to her bum so she didn't get a wedgie when she walked. Now that's a good sport! Although, she did get a little testy on Friday when I was helping her pick out the make-up. She was a lot better than I would have ever been.

My mom, Kathryn, and I had many talks the weeks before and just talked about how important it was for Kathryn to be herself and do her best, and if she doesn't win then atleast she could just feel good about how she performed. And that's exactly what Kathryn did. Her piano piece was amazing, she was gorgeous and nothing was made up or fake about her. I had the worst attitude because the results were just so WRONG! I had a lot more to say than that, but I'll keep it to myself. (I really am coping just fine, I swear.)

Anyway, it was so fun to watch and to see Kathryn do so well. She's a good example to me. We're SO proud of you and love you Kat!

(The girl on the right was 1st attendant last year and got it again this year. AND the girl who got 2nd attendant (not in the pic) has apparently been in a TON of pageants and finally won something.)
Do I sound bitter? Oh well. I get really defensive when it comes to my family.

One of a Kind

We had a fun weekend celebrating Jake's 24th birthday! His birthday was on Saturday, we went to breakfast at IHOP, had cake and ice cream later with his fam, and went to Miss Springville that night, which he claims was his favorite part of the day. Yeah, I'm kidding. In honor, I thought I would post this:

What's his name? Jacob Mark Martinez

How long have you been married? We got married on December 10, 2005. We've known each other since kindergarten and it was meant to be ever since we were the doctors to Mother Earth in our 3rd grade program. Jake's dad seriously said to him after our program, "You need to make sure and marry that Sumsion girl." Who'd have thought???

How long did you date? We dated as friends in high school and before his mission. Then he got home in April of '05, he first kissed me on July 30, and let me add I did not like the first kiss, it's no secret, Jake knows. Then all of a sudden we were engaged September 22nd and married in December. Somewhere in the middle of all of it we decided we really loved each other.

How old is he? Just turned 24. He loves to tell people he married an older woman. I turned 24 in November.

Who eats more? Jake. Period. Let's keep it that way.

Who said "I love you" first? This is bad, but I honestly can't remember. I'm positive it was Jake, he's way cheesier than me, then I'm sure I followed after.

Who is taller? Jake. He's 6' 3", I'm 5' 10". My #1 rule was to never date anyone shorter than me.

Who sings better? I'd say we're equal. We both know how to harmonize, but that's about it. I didn't say we were good, but we know how.

Who is smarter? Well, I'd say overall Jake is. But the longer we're married I realize he's one of those book smart nerds. I definitely have got more common sense though. If any of you would like to discuss how evaporation occurs or how many pounds per square inch water weighs, Jake would love to talk with you. Just come on over to the nerd factory. Jake already discusses investing with Mazee.

Whose temper is worse? Jake's! Okay, okay, I'll be honest--me. Jake is probably the MOST patient guy you could ever find. I guess you'd have to be to marry me. That's one of the main things I appreciate about him.

Who does the laundry? We do it together, otherwise it would never get done. I hate folding it and putting it away.
Who does the dishes? Usually me. But Jake is really good at helping after dinner. I was raised that whoever doesn't cook does the dishes, so I guess we implemented that into our family.

Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? Jake. I don't know why you'd want to know that. But just in case you were wondering....

Who mows the lawn? I tried once last summer when I was pregnant, I think I pulled a few muscles when I tried to empty the bag and put on a great show for the neighbors. From then on it's been Jake's job.

Who cooks dinner? I do. Jake has on our Valentine's Days and anniversary's.

Who drives when you're together? Usually Jake, he feels like a pansy if we're together and I drive.

Who's more stubborn? Me. Enough said. Blame my mom.

Who's the first to admit they're wrong? Jake. It's goes along with the patience thing. It's so hard to stay mad at him because he's like that.
Whose parents do you visit the most? They're pretty equal. I see my mom a lot just because we do stuff together, but they both live about 5 minutes away.

Who proposed? Well, we had talked about getting married, then a day later I kind of got weirded out by the thought of marriage. After a lot of prayer and talking with my parents, I knew it was right. My mom told me to call the temple and just "see" if December 10th was available. I ended up scheduling our wedding. Jake came over that night and I said, "Well, we're getting married December 10th at 3pm in the Salt Lake temple!!" He was a little taken back. Anyway, he did the actual proposing. He proposed in my parents backyard with this whole setup. I always wanted to have a summer wedding with a reception in the backyard. Since we were getting married in December, he used the backyard for his proposal. It was beautiful! All the family watched from the deck..... nerds.

Who has more friends? I do, just because all my high school friends have stayed really close. His friends all went in different directions. He really likes my friends husbands and has fun hanging out with them.

Who has more siblings? I have 4 siblings and Jake has 2.

Who wears the pants in the family? We always say we both have a leg in the pant.......but, we know the real truth. (wink, wink)

Even though this is late (on the blog), I wanted to say Happy Birthday to Jake! I love you babe! I feel so blessed to have an almost perfect husband. :) Let's be honest, is there such a thing as the perfect husband? He's works full time and has kicked booty in school sine he started. He has finished school in 2 1/2 years and he still makes Mazee and I his #1 priority. He is the most concerned dad and husband who takes such good care of us. He's already worried that Mazee is going to choke on baby food, take note that it's so watery, and he wants me to teach him infant CPR, just incase. He truly is one of a kind. We are so proud to call him "ours!" What a stud!

Sweet Baby Girl

Just wanted to post some cute pictures of Mazee...

The End Is Near

It's safe to say I'm a little excited for Jake's graduation. When Mazee was born I wanted to be a good, ambitious mom and make my own birth announcements like my cute friend Carly, but that didn't happen. Since I got a Cricut for Christmas and have hardly used it, I decided to put it to good use and make graduation announcements. Here's the final product.... One month from today Jake will be graduated. Hallelujah!

Mindin' Our Peas & Carrots

Last week we started the introduction of baby food. And although some may think I'm a bad mom, I let my dad give her some chocolate mousse pie from Brick Oven on his birthday. Just a tiny bit, I promise. Her face was classic! It was hilarious! But for now we're sticking to peas and carrots and Mazee's loving it. Those veggies sure do get the digestive tract moving! Wow! Jake is less than excited with that part.

Happy Birthday Dad!

Today is my awesome Dad's birthday, also being St. Patrick's Day. So I guess he's a pretty lucky guy, or my mom's a lucky lady. :) Anyway, he is the best dad ever. I think every girl says growing up that they want to marry someone like their dad, and wow, I don't think I could have gotten any closer with Jake! So I guess this post is going to compliment Jake also. My dad is so smart and I swear he knows everything about everything! Never in all my growing up years did we have a plumber, electrician, or any other sort of fix it man come to our house, my dad did it all. He's such a hard worker and never sits down for two seconds. He NEVER watches T.V. because he's such an advocate of making good use of your time. I don't think he even knows what The Office or American Idol is. Imagine that?! And I'm just so glad that my dad will be around forever! He's so healthy and runs 2-4 miles every morning. That's pretty darn good for a 54 year old! My biggest fear is having my parents die, not only because I love them, but because they help us out SO MUCH! I don't know what we'd do without all their wisdom and knowledge. Anyway, Happy Birthday Papa! We love you! And we're excited for birthday dinner at Brick Oven tonight! YAY!

I couldn't find just a pic of my dad, so mom and dad with the kids on Halloween!
